✅ Minimum Requirements for Admission
  • A At least 'S' grades in all three approved subjects in one sitting, within a maximum of three (03) attempts.
  • B A minimum mark of 30% for the Common General Paper. Candidates scoring below 30% are not eligible for registration in the current academic year.
  • C A valid National Identity Card (NIC) is mandatory when applying online.
  • D Applications must be submitted online only via www.ugc.ac.lk. Hand delivery is not permitted.
  • E The printed online application must be sent via registered post to the Deputy Secretary/University Admissions, UGC, No. 20, Ward Place, Colombo 07 in an A4-sized envelope.
⚠️ Candidates with below 30% in the General Paper may use a passing score from a previous attempt (within 3 attempts), OR re-sit to qualify in a future academic year. False declarations will result in permanent disqualification.
🎨 Practical / Aptitude Test Courses

Candidates applying for the following courses must apply and pass the practical/aptitude test conducted by the respective university. Contact the Registrar of the relevant university directly. Passing the test alone is not sufficient — candidates must also meet the cut-off Z-score.

🚫 Disqualification Categories
  • 1.Sat for A/L Examination on more than three (03) occasions.
  • 2.Currently or previously registered as an internal student in a State University or Higher Educational Institute under the Universities Act No.16 of 1978.
  • 3.Registered under free education at Bhiksu University, Buddhist & Pali University, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, University of Vocational Technology, or Ocean University (registered 2017 onwards).
  • 4.Registered in a College of Education as an internal student.
  • 5.Registered in a 3-year diploma programme under the University of Vocational Technology.
  • 6.Registered full-time in an HND (SLIATE) or NDES (NAITA/IET) programme of 3+ years — unless withdrawn within 60 days of the last registration date.
  • 7.Accepted a foreign scholarship through the Ministry of Education for a first-degree course.
  • 8.Already holds a first degree from any of the above institutions.
  • 9.Made a false declaration or produced forged documents in any previous or current application.
🏥 Suspended Courses (Gampaha Wickramarachchi University): Selection for Indigenous Medicinal Resources, Biomedical Technology, Health Information & ICT, Indigenous Pharmaceutical Technology, Health Tourism, Yoga & Parapsychology, Social Studies in Indigenous Knowledge, and Service Management is temporarily suspended for 2025/2026 due to curriculum reviews.
🔢 About Uni-Codes & Preferences
  • There are 255 Uni-Codes across 121 courses in 16 National Universities, 2 Campuses, and 2 Higher Educational Institutes.
  • Candidates may mark up to a maximum of 125 preferences and should list them from highest to lowest preference.
  • Preferences can be changed online within 2 weeks from the application closing date. A signed printed copy must be posted by registered mail.
  • The registration fee for the selected course is Rs. 50/=, payable online or at Bank of Ceylon / People's Bank.
  • An Anti-Ragging Declaration must be printed and submitted at the time of university enrolment.
