📌 Overview

This is the first amendment (I) to Circular No. 29/2024 dated 02 August 2024 regarding the Suraksha Student Insurance programme. The amendments aim to expand coverage and make benefits more accessible to students.

Effective Date: These amendments apply from 01 September 2025 onwards.

🔄 Key Amendments

  • Parental death benefit income threshold increased from Rs. 180,000 to Rs. 240,000
  • Insurance coverage period extended to 31 August 2027
  • New medical devices and treatments added under health benefits
  • Expanded list of critical illnesses eligible for long-term medication
  • Updated timelines for claim document submission

💰 Parental Death Benefit – Income Limit

Section 05 of the original circular is amended as follows:

Parental death benefit is now available to students from families with an annual income of less than Rs. 240,000 and to students from families belonging to the 'Aswesuma' programme.

🩺 Expanded Health Insurance Benefits

New Additions under Section 2.1.1.4

  • b. Expenditure for Scoliosis Brace (device for spinal defects)
  • c. Expenditure for Cochlear Apparatus (recommended by an ENT surgeon)

Amendments to Visual & Support Devices

  • Visual aids (spectacles) up to Rs. 10,000 per year (reimbursement or direct payment for low-income families)
  • Lumber Guards and Cervical Collars (recommended by specialist doctor)

Critical Illness Long-term Medication (New Section g)

Epilepsy, Nephrotic syndrome, Rheumatoid arthritis, Systemic lupus erythematosus, Ulcerative colitis, Crohn disease, Rheumatic valvular heart disease, etc.

Additional Diseases under 2.1.3.1

Thalassemia, Hereditary spherocytosis, Sickle cell anemia, Encephalitis, Pneumothorax.

📄 Document Submission & Timelines

All claims must be submitted to any regional office of Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation within 90 days. Principals must certify documents before submission.
