Difficult school allowance increased for principals and teachers — effective 1 April 2026
The Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education has amended the special monthly allowance for principals and teachers serving in schools classified as "difficult" and "very difficult" — with the revised rates taking effect from 1 April 2026, funded through Budget 2026 provisions.

Who qualifies for this allowance?
The allowance applies to all principals and teachers currently serving in National and Provincial Schools that have been officially classified as "very difficult" or "difficult" under Education Circular 01/2024 (I), and any amendments made to that classification in the future.

- All principals and teachers serving in officially designated difficult schools
- Covers both National Schools and Provincial Schools island-wide
- Classification follows Education Circular 01/2024 (I) and future amendments thereto
Background & authority
This circular amends the original Circular No. 2006/44 issued on 27 November 2006. The revision was made in accordance with an agreement by the Director General of Management Services and the Director General of National Budget, with formal approval granted by the Director General of Establishments. The funding is drawn from provisions allocated under Budget 2026 specifically to increase teacher and principal difficult service allowances.
